CHEERCHEER is a charity which provides information and advice either on home visits or over the telephone to enable older people to continue living as independently as possible. This includes signposting to locally available services and assisting in the completion of lengthy benefit claim forms, particularly those for Attendance Allowance. They also run a Befriending Scheme matching volunteers with older people who are otherwise isolated and lonely. The volunteers commit to visiting once a week for a chat and some companionship. They also run events to bring together older people at tea parties, pie and pint lunches or afternoon teas. There is off-road parking, mains water piped to taps spaced across the site, supplies of manure and leaf mould with leaves from local parks. A small selection of powered equipment is available. Depending on the size and condition of the plot and the crops grown an orderly plot usually needs at least 3 hours attention per week during the growing season, March to October, and less in winter.
